A Collapsable, Keychain Sling

Here's a highly unique, decorative, and useful keyfob, lanyard, or zipperpull. Though four and a half inches long, it expands to a fully useable, 63" long sling with just a sharp jerk! How does it do this? The monkey chain knot (AKA Chain Shortening or Crochet Chain Stitch) dramatically reduces the length of a cord, can hold secure, and (once unstabilized) can be undone with just a tug. This sling is braided from masonry line which you can buy cheaply at any hardware store.

~It is 6-ply, and uses a split-pouch design to hold the ammo.

~A large key-ring serves as a finger loop (and to hold keys/attatch to other keyring).
~A simple overhand knot provides a toggle for using the sling, and for securing the monkey chain when not in use.

~You can ALWAYS have a sling with you!

All you have to do is make any split-pouch (click for photo) sling

with cords no thicker than paracord-550. A seamless (braided) design will work best; for instructions, click here. Instead of tying a finger-loop, simply use a 1" keyring. Once your sling is constructed, fold it in half from the center of the punch, and begin from the middle to tie a monkey chain knot as is shown in the following photos.

Repeat photos 1 and 2 until you have something resembling a neater version of photo 3. This can be continued indefinitely.
When you are finished, pass the remainder of the cord through the final loop. This seals the monkey chain, and prevents it from becoming accidently undone. In my keychain sling, a simple toggle keeps the knot from becoming undone, but (as is shown below) a clip of some sort can also be used. To deploy your sling, simply undo the clip and tug on the ends. Your sling will immediately unravel and be ready to use.
