Games to play while on the trail
From WildernessWiki.org
On long hikes, word games or physical ones can be a good way to relieve boredom while marching, pass evenings by a fire, or to help keep children in good spirits. Add your game here below the one above, heading it with the following tag: "==Game's Name Here=="
Stalking
While walking the woods with our children, we often stop to settle them down from all the talking and bouncing down the trail by having a short "Stalking" game. One person chooses where they will stand with eyes closed, they are it. The others must stalk the first without getting caught. As the one being stalked detects a sound that they believe is a person, they point out the direction of that sound to stop them. See who can tag the person without being detected or who can get the closest.
Try it in the leaves, gravel or hard trail. Try taking your shoes off, using the wind, animal sounds, or a plane to cover your movement.

Walking in Circles
Find an open field, or straightaway on a path. Blindfold half of the hikers and have them walk as straight as possible for as far as they can. It won't be long before they veer off to one side or the other. See who gets the farthest. Now go back and explain that this is the reason people will walk in circles when they are lost in the woods. It is based on the idea that there is no visual reference to stay on a straight course, and that the body's natural tendency is to be stronger on one side than the other, pushing it off course.
