The Monkey Chain also known as a Monkey Braid, Chain Sennit, Crochet Knot, Daisy Chain, Drummer's Plait or Chain Stitch is a fast-to-tie knot used to shorten a length of rope for utility, storage, or decoration. It is made of a series of consecutive loops - each passing through the one before it. With the working end passed through the final loop, the monkey chain will not come undone. With the working end free, however, a short tug will unravel the chain and free the line for use. It is favored by mariners as decoration for docking lines, electricians for storing cord, and martial artists for disguising weapons. Also, it was often used by marching drummers in the 18th century, as a shoulder strap for their drums. This way, sections could be unraveled to lengthen the strap, to fit another drummer.
