One good way to make char cloth is with a sealed metal can. Hardware stores sometimes sell empty paint or stain cans. Or use your own paint can, but first remove the paint residue by burning it out. Poke a hole in the top with a nail, and cook your char cloth. Other stores sell tea in tins. Those also can work. Coffee cans in the US usually have a plastic, not metal, top, so those won't work real well.
