How close?!
So I'm looking at recent traffic when I see that someone not too far from me knows how to use the recent changes page and has been stealing my Dutch music... only one conclusion - Matt's home for Thanksgiving! I feel we should continue this in another media, but what's been going on?

Hey again
Matt - I'm definitely still interested in helping expand/manage the wiki. My summer job is lifeguarding/counseling at a Boy Scout camp, which doesn't put me in a position to be online except for an hour or two on weekends. When I finish in mid-August, and with this next school year I'll definitely pick up again and keep writing. Until then, I'll be in and out. It's looking great here though! Sounds Good
As for the boat: http://www.guillemot-kayaks.com/guillemot/node/51/detail To be used in the ocean :) Funditor 22:51, 12 June 2008 (EDT)
State of the Wiki
At the time, I'm happy with what's here and still have a list of things to copy over someday. Right now, I'm sort of busy with summer though. This was mostly a project to keep away from homework. Traffic is pretty consistent and people have been finding the articles useful - three people that I know of have built slings from the woven sling plans here for example. I just brought home two 16' 2x4's and three saw horses to make a platform for scarfing some 1088 Okoume Marine Grade Plywood. CLC has my forms programmed into their CNC machine, and should arrive sometime soon. :) Funditor 23:18, 11 June 2008 (EDT)
Cool
Glad to see the simplified random thumbs working. In the past, templates within templates have posed problems.Funditor 08:29, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
Stave
To be clear, the wood part of a bow is called simply the bow, as is the whole bow. A stave is a piece of wood which is ready to be made into a bow, or in the process of being made into one. Isn't language great?
I like the photo being blurred and blown out - if there were detail it would like the edge of a photo - as it is pieces of it can be seen without the eye looking for the rest. Full one (still blown out) can be seen here.

Bo bow
Nope, wasn't a typo. Bow staves, not bo staff. Bo staff won't do you much good against a bear, but a bow might :). Also, clear your cache. Logo has been updated and a better background image (sky should only be at very top). The MySQL upgrage has been great for loading speed, and downtime has been very consistent but definitely more than the 3 minutes per day that would make it 99.85% - I'll see what I can do. Funditor 14:30, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
Ads
They should be disappearing once logged in. Funditor 17:50, 27 April 2008 (EDT)
Server and Ads
The Wilderness Wiki is now running on a good server which should give us excellent up-time, and make the pages load considerably faster. AdSense has also been implemented. I'm working on turning off ads for logged in users. ~Funditor
Moving
I didn't use the move because some things needed to be edited so I already had it copied and was lazy..... Right. The title is as it is for two reasons. The more obvious is so that people know where they are - especially until the logo gets changed. The more important reason is: How many pages on the internet are labeled "Main Page" vs. how many are labeled "Wilderness wiki". We're #2 currently for the latter, and with careful work should surpass the wikipedia article on wilderness (unfortunately, I think that Google gives extra points to wikipedia for searches ending in wiki since 99% of the time, people are looking for an article there). If you can get the #1 spot for "main page" go for it! ;) The hosting is still somewhat sketchy (was down about five minutes ago) so I'll be buying SQL support from 110mb sometime soon.

Afterthought
By the way, I do like the Incomplete tag, and I think it should stay. Ethan 23:38, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
OK then
Thanks for the answers on the URL bit. I think we should do something different from WSS. I checked google, and the top result for Wilderness Survival Skills was a geocities site (the second was wildwoodsurvival.com, which confirmed the sneaking suspicion that someone already had a title similar to mine... But that's another story.) I guess what I'm getting at is we should try something at least a bit different. Maybe just the Wilderness Skills Wiki - or something else along those lines. I'm posting this on both of you guys Talk Pages, just so you know. Ethan 23:36, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Attn: Ethan and Matt
About the complete tag, I'm with Ethan. I think that complete should be more the status quo rather than a tag which makes it feel sort of like an exception to the rule. Name change is still in the air. I'll put some thought into it in the next day or two. The geocaching article sounds awesome!
Funditor 19:21, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Maybe...
Well, if you want to create it I don't care... But I think the idea is nothing is ever totally complete, because somebody is going to have something to add to anything... I don't see how we would need it. Has Funditor said anything more about changing the name? I was thinking I'd do an article on geocaching and then submit it to them as an article, because the geocaching website sends out emails to the (huge) membership base notifying them of geocaching in the news. I figured it'd be great publicity for the site, but I didn't want to do it yet if we're changing the name. Ethan 18:39, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
OK then
Yeah, sorry about the template getting taken out - it was bothering me when I was previewing the article, so I took it out and forgot to replace it. Ethan 00:18, 20 April 2008 (EDT)
Hello!
Hey Matt, great to have you on board! I noticed your comment over on my blog, and, seeing there was no other way to respond, came over here. Once again, it's great to have you here. I'm on vacation this weekend, but next week I'll be kicking into high gear for spring, and hope to get some solid articles going around here before I head off for the summer. I'm glad to have someone else besides just Funditor who seems to understand the technical aspects of wikis... Because I certainly don't! Ethan 23:48, 11 April 2008 (EDT)
Klippe works in Chicago?!
I see you edited the fire piston stub. I recently made a video of one in use, and just threw it in the article.
Funditor
Damn, what
was put at the bottom, exactly? Yeah, these will be text not thumbs, and the idea of linking to the series is a good one. Have a good time in Chicago!
EDIT: I've figured out what was put at the bottom of what.

More videos...
After many, many failed attempts at using div tags, I settled with tables and have made the prototype video page. You can see it in a video such as the one here. "Testing" will be replaced with 5 or so random links to videos. Of course, a bunch of these videos go as a part of a series, so I'll need to make a way to point that out with links (more templates inside of the template, I imagine). Any suggestions on what else to do? Funditor 21:35, 8 April 2008 (EDT)
Videos
Alright, the problem was that YouTube videos which appear on Google Video can't be embedded through google video. So the template has been edited with the variables 's' for service and 'id' for the video id. Example as shown in the Heat Loss Video
{{Video|s=youtube|id=yOpLVQJWXR0}}
So once all the videos are working, all video pages can be edited from template:video
Funditor
Upon further review,
and a bit of experimentation, it would appear as though the Embed Video extension will simply not work while embedded in a template. It would be fine to do each video page manually... except when it comes time to update the video page with random video thumbs or something - then going over each one would be hell. I think I'll spend a few days looking for a shortcut. Funditor 21:14, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, I'd infer that your first name is Matt...
I'm sure you're already there, but: [1]
You can delete things, undo edits more easily, and I'm decently sure that you can block people/IP addresses (please don't block me).
About these broken Videos... I made a template for Google Video (since youtube videos are on google but not the other way around) which is here Template:Video. The template calls upon the extension here [2]. If you see a glaringly obvious solution, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll fix that and begin copying over a bunch more stuff people have been sending within a couple of weeks.
Do you have an idea for a mono/di/tri syllabic name to replace Klippe?
Funditor 20:58, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Sysop
Hey,
You now have sysop powers. I'm not sure if that will help you in your endeavor to make this place navigable....
Funditor 20:40, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Nice!
Changes look great! I don't think I'd like to standardize the names, but maybe on a case-by-case basis we can make changes. I've been extremely busy lately, but I'll be back to go over this sort of thing and add a lot of new content within a couple of weeks.
