The White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus Virginiamus) is a member of the family Cervidae. It is one of the most common game animals in North America. Also known as the Virginia Deer, or simply as the White-tail, it ranges through most of North America, and into parts of South America. Where the range of the caribou begins in the north, the White-tails peter out.
Male White-tailed Deer are known as "bucks", while females are called "does". The young are called "fawns", and are covered in white spots while very young.
Bucks grow antlers in the spring, while most does do not. However, some does have been known to have antlers.
